High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Starting Line is an American pop punk band based from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that formed in 1999.In 1999, the band that would become The Starting Line was initiated in Churchville, Pennsylvania via an e-mail from guitarist Matt Watts to vocalist/bassist Kenny Vasoli. It asked if the then fourteen-year-old Vasoli, who was at that time in a band called Smash Adams, was interested in "Jamming and shit", as the message title read. Only a few weeks later, Vasoli found himself rehearsing with his future bandmates Watts, guitarist Mike Golla and drummer Tom Gryskewicz. That year, Smash Adams released a tape, Batteries Not Included. It had 7 songs, of which only 4 were mastered. One song from that tape was incorporated into another bands work, 5 Days Ahead.

Train Songs

'This is the night mail crossing the border,Bringing the cheque and the postal order...'-- W.H. AudenWordsworth was the first laureate of locomotives: in fact he railed against them, and against the consequent opening up of the Lakes to holiday hordes ('On the Projected Kendal and Windermere Railway'). His dismay was echoed down the decades by disturbed ruralists, and yet the train has become part of our psychic landscape: some of the best-loved English poems - Edward Thomas's 'Adlestrop', or Philip Larkin's 'Whitsun Weddings' - have celebrated carriages, platforms and waiting rooms, while locomotion has inspired some of the most characteristic poetry of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Stevenson, Hardy and MacNeice, Betjeman and Auden (whose 'Night Mail' was written to accompany a 1930s GPO documentary about the postal express from Euston to Glasgow).Co-edited by two of our most distinguished poets, Train Songs offers a round tour - from Wordsworth to Hugo Williams and beyond - starting from the poetry of departures and brief encounters, but taking in the American Blues, the troop trains of two world wars, and the addiction to speed which characterised the European revolutions. Trains have carried the freight of history from the Industrial Revolution onwards - the Armstice in 1918 was signed in a railway carriage, the death camps were organised around train timetables - and this new anthology shows how the train in all its forms has exercised a unique hold upon our collective unconscious.

Touch of Roy and Dale

ggf. zzgl. Versand

When author Tricia Spencer acquired 40,000 pieces of fan mail from the Rogers' estate, she discovered much more than typical fan adulation. Nestled amidst never-before-seen photos, poetry, art and songs were amazing personal Roy and Dale stories. The 1990s letters were written when Roy and Dale began facing health challenges, and in spite of it being nearly a half a century beyond their Hollywood heyday, fans rallied to express just how much their American heroes had influenced and altered the paths of their lives. Additionally, Ms. Spencer invited Roy and Dale's children, family friends, western silver screen stars, western authors, and others to pen their own personal essays for the book. Elton John and Bernie Taupin's Roy Rogers song, the sketch art of stuntman and famed western artist, Walt LaRue, and memories shared by celebrity friends blend seamlessly with the expression and imaginative artistic creations of Roy and Dale's cherished fans. Many words have been devoted to Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, but never before have those words been gathered into the revelation that is The Touch of Roy and Dale. A book for all generations, it easily answers the question: What is a hero? Roy and Dale's greatest accomplishment was never their celebrity. As the collective voices of this book so poignantly, sometimes humorously, sometimes rawly, reveal, it was their uncommon and generous humanity that made them heroes. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book benefits Roy and Dale's charity, The Happy Trails Children's Foundation.
