Shirley Jackson was born in California in 1916. When her short story The Lottery was first published in the New Yorker in 1948, readers were so horrified they sent her hate mail; it has since become one of the most iconic American stories of all time. Her first novel, The Road Through the Wall, was published in the same year and was followed by Hangsaman, The Bird's Nest, The Sundial, The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, widely seen as her masterpiece. In addition to her dark, brilliant novels, she wrote lightly fictionalized magazine pieces about family life with her four children and her husband, the critic Stanley Edgar Hyman. Shirley Jackson died in 1965.

My name is Violeta C. I have been already in Germany for a year working as Au-pair and learning german. I would love to keep working with children in Germany, I really enjoy working with kids and I consider it as a reaching experience for my life. I'm open to help with the household, doing tasks such as cooking, vacuuming or helping in general with the house, this are things that I've been doing before and during my current Au-pair year. Although I am an American, I lived in Colombia since I was eight years old in the countryside of the municipality of La Ceja, and I´ve been babysitting since I was 16, I used to also participate in educational projects with children that involved playing, doing homework and other activities like crafting, painting, reading and dancing with them. I have had the possibility of knowing different countries so I love experiencing new languages and cultures, as well as getting to know new people. Besides school, I play the clarinet and I´ve been involved with music since I was seven years old, participating in symphonic band and orchestra... and my goal is to go to the university to study music. I would love to get to share my next job experience with a nice family. If you want to have some more information about how it has been my work, don't hesitate to ask for the telephone number or e-mail from the current Family I work with.
